Amazon Delivery Status Meanings
Amazon shows several statuses between order and doorstep. Most are routine; a few warrant action. Here is the plain-English meaning of each.
Preparing for shipment
The warehouse has the order and is picking items. No action needed.
Shipped
The package is in the carrier's hands. Tracking scans now appear.
In transit
Moving between facilities. Updates can be sparse on long routes.
Out for delivery
On a truck or with a courier for today's round. Most platforms expect delivery within hours.
Delivered
Marked as delivered to your address. If you cannot find it, wait 48 hours then escalate.
Exception / delayed
Something went wrong — weather, missed connection, address issue. Tracking explains the reason in a brief note.
Frequently asked questions
Status has not changed in days — is the package lost?
Not necessarily. Long-distance shipments scan less often. Wait 5 business days before assuming the worst.
What does "label created" mean?
The seller has printed the shipping label but the carrier has not picked the package up yet.
